Herbert Joseph Abenshon, 86, died Sunday morning, May 30, 2004 at York Hospital, he was the husband of Louise (Heltzel) Abenshon to whom he was married 66 years. Mr. Abenshon was born on February 23, 1918, in York, he was the son of the late John R. and Mabel E. (Myers) Abenshon. He retired after 30 years of service from the Pennsylvania Department of Health as an X-ray Technician. After retirement he was employed with the former Simon and Sons Photography for 15 years. Mr. Abenshon served in the U.S. Navy as a Pharmacist's Mate Third Class during World War II. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 1530, and the American Legion Post 0469 in Wrightsville. Mr. Abenshon is survived by two sons, Herbert F. Abenshon husband of Bonnie of York and Jerry V. Abenshon husband of Evelyn of York; seven grandchildren; great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Strine of York; and nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 231 S. Beaver St., York. Viewing will be from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church. Officiating will be the Rev. Louis Petruha O.F.M. Cap. of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be in Holy Saviour Cemetery with Flag presentation by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial contributions can be made to the SPCA, 66 Big Mount Road, Thomasville, PA 17364. The John W. Keffer Funeral Home, Inc., 902 Mt. Rose Ave., York is in charge of arrangements.
