Robert was the son of Albert and Alice Bailey. He grew up in Elgin, IL and graduated from Elgin High in 1943. Bob served in the US Army during WWII in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and central Europe. He retired to Elgin in 1980. He moved to Salt Lake City in 2004 to be close to his nephew and family. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Phyllis Bailey; and nephew, Paul Bailey.
