Ernest A. Bowers, Jr., 81, passed away Oct. 2, 2006. Born in Akron, Ernie had lived in the area all of his life. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was self-employed as a design engineer for 48 years. Ernie was a member of Springfield Assembly of God, American Society of Tool Engineering (ASTE), and the VFW Post 7202. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest A. and Bella Bowers Sr., and son, Rodney L. Bowers. He is survived by his wife, Bonita Bowers; daughter, Renee D. (Ronald) Beltz of Hartville; sons, Roger E. (Sandra) Bowers of Cuyahoga Falls, Richard W. (Loretta) Bowers of Stow, and Randal D. (Diane) Bowers of Dallas, Georgia; sister, Mary Elinor Marple of Akron; 11 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Akron, where Mogadore VFW Post 8487 will conduct military rites. Friends may call from 5 to 8 pm Oct. 4 at the Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave. (on the Historic Tallmadge Circle).
