Edith D Ames was born in Norrisville (now Grelickville, Leelanau County, MI)MI to Edward and Edith Irene Norris Ames. She had a twin brother and was part of a family of multipule births. With four sets of twins, one set of triplets and four single births as siblings. She moved to Traverse City, MI, when she was ten years old and helped work at the Lumber Camps cooking with her mother. She lived next to the Bradford's (Yates, children's last name was Bradford) She fell in love with Francis C Bradford and married him when she was 16. Francis C. Bradford was the 10th generation direct descendant of Gov. Wm. Bradford, of Plymouth fame.

She had seven children. Her first son, Robert, was stillborn and is buried in Oak Wood Cemetery in Traverse City. Her second son, Richard C. was born in 1919, then came Edward A. 1921, Robert W. in 1923, Frances L. 1926, Harry J. 1928 and finally Barbara Lee in 1934. She moved with her husband to Florida in 1976 and lived in Lake Worth until his death in 1982. She then moved to Fort Pierce, FL and lived with her daughter, Barbara until her death in Winder, Ga, in August of 1992, where they had fled to get out of the way of a hurricane in Florida. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother and loved all of us very much.
