Mary, daughter of Sanford and Amanda Hines, married Philetus Brusiee in Tuscola County, Michigan, on March 29, 1868.

Philetus was a Civil War veteran who served in Company E of the 9th Michigan Cavalry and Company E of the 24th Michigan Infantry.

In 1880 Philetus Brusiee leased one to one-and-a-half acres of his 80-acre farm for $125 for a period of 100 years in order to build the Brusiee School. He was also a school board member.

The Brusiee School was built in 1880 and opened in May 1881. It was located at the corner of Brusiee Road and M-46 in Indianfields Township, Tuscola County, Michigan. The one-room schoolhouse stood until 1961 when the state demolished it to widen M-46.

Mary (Hines) Brusiee passed away in 1883 and was buried in Wahjamega Cemetery, Caro, Michigan.

On August 12, 1895 Philetus married his second wife Mary Cupp in Reese, Tuscola County, Michigan. Mary, a daughter of John and Ann Cupp, was born Mary Kupc in Wayne County, Michigan on October 2, 1877. She was 35 years younger than Philetus.

Philetus passed away in 1920, and was buried next to his first wife Malissa in the Wahjamega Cemetery.

On July 20, 1925 Mary (Cupp) Brusiee married Charles Brainard in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. They divorced on October 9, 1930.

Information from a family member states that Mary was buried in Detroit, but does not specify in which cemetery.

Note: Mary Cupp's maiden name is spelled differently on several documents. On her birth certificate it is Kupc; on the record of her marriage it is spelled Cupp with the female witness as Anna Kupz; on Philetus's first pension application it is Cupp and on the second application it is Cupps.
