Mr. Eddie Eugene Fowler, Sr. age 85 went to be with his Lord, on Sunday.
He is reunited with his wife, Winnie, who departed this life on October 16, 2008. Mr Fowler was a WW II veteran, proudly serving in France and Germany in George C. Patton's Tank Battalion. He sustained serious wounds in a tank explosion, and was awarded the Purple Heart, as well as an honorable discharge in 1946. While overseas he began corresponding with a young lady named Winnie Mealer, whom he had never met. When finally meeting her for the first time it was love at first sight and they soon married. This began a long loving partnership that lasted 62 years, and created a large and loving family that has loved and honored him throughout his life. Eddie was a great lover of baseball and a huge fan of the Atlanta Braves, and missed very few of their games. For many years he was an active member of the Dalton Parks and Recreation Department and the Dawnville Recreation Department, where he coached little league baseball and later girls softball. He taught hundreds of boys and girls how to play and love the game. He also enjoyed watching the old western movies,tending his garden of vegetables and plants, as well as a special talent in wood-working. He worked for Canterbury Carpets for many years and retired from Tappen in 1985. Mr. Fowler was 85 years old at the time of his death.
He was the son of the late Claude Mitchell and Maude Fowler and was preceded in death by his sisters, Alene (Lena) Fowler (His twin), Sarah Fowler Hudson, Minnie Fowler Clark Lewis, and brothers, Harry Fowler, William James Fowler, Luther Fowler (WW II, and Claude Mitchell Fowler, Jr.
His surviving siblings are Dessie Saggus of Dalton and Harold Fowler of New Bern, N.C.
He is also survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Fowler Brimi and John of Knoxville, TN., Glenda Fowler Bartley and Robert, Jo Fowler Cook and John, Beth Flower Headrick all of Dalton; son, Eddie E. Flower, Jr. of Murray County.
He was blessed with 8 grandchildren, Hunter and Carrie Brimi, Jennifer Bartley Coley and Allen Coley, Jill Bartley Hill and Randy Hill, Jeremy and Lacy Evans, Meghann Brown Coley and Shannon Coley, Jordan Brown, Christopher Jones and Lee Flower.
Great-grandchildren, Destin Jones, Kaleb and Morgan Hill, Ella Belle, Sawyer Coley, Baleigh Coley, Chandler Coley, Emma Coley and Caeli Clure.
Mr. Fowler and his wife were long-time members of Evangelical Methodist Church, and in recent years years attended Liberty Baptist Church.
Services were held on Tuesday in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home with the Dr. Danny Cochran officiating.
