Born in Philadelphia on July 26, 1950, he was raised in Penndel, and was the son of the late Leonard and Dorothy (Bergbauer) Dever.
Mr. Dever was a graduate of Neshaminy High School, Class of 1969, and graduated from Bucks County Community College in 1971. He continued his education at San Francisco State University, graduating in 1976 with a master's degree in research psychology. He then completed a course in commercial diving in Long Beach, Calif.
He had worked with Jean-Michel Cousteau selecting divers for living in an underwater habitat off California, and for underwater filming off Honduras in Central America.
He moved to Scotland in 1978 and worked for numerous British and French diving companies, first as a commercial diver and, since 1982, in various phases of management. He started his own consultancy company, Psych Dive Ltd., in 1990.
He was a managing director at Gerard Engineering Ltd. and a lecturer at the University of Aberdeen on diving medicine.
Len joined Wellstream in 1997 as manager of projects and, in 2000, took up the post of human resources manager.
He is survived by loving siblings: Jeanie Biser (Daryl) of Warminster, Colin Dever of Doylestown, Colleen Reiter (Jeff) of Dearborn, Mich., and Saramae Carroll (Frank) of Nashville, Tenn. He also is survived by two aunts, Phyllis Matyis and Rosemary Kaupp, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
The family held a memorial service in Scotland and Len's ashes were committed to the North Sea that he loved so much.
