Clark was born 15 December 1878 in Hatchett Creek, Clay County, Alabama. He was the youngest son of William Alexander Baucum, born 5 July 1823 in Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. William was in the Civil War. William married Mary Louisa Harrell Baucum 12 May 1857 in Talladega County, Alabama. William died 14 December 1914 in Clay County, Alabama. William is buried in the Bethlehem Methodist Cemetery, Ashland, Clay, Alabama. Mary Louisa was born 29 June 1835 in Alabama, died 28 June 1883 in Clay County, Alabama. Do not know at this time where she is buried.
Clark married Nettie Pogue 1 December 1901 in Clay County, Alabama. Nettie's parents were Andrew Jackson Pogue, born 6 October 1848 Troup County, Georgia died 12 August 1922, Ashland, Clay County, Alabama and Sarah Ann Campbell Pogue, born 11 May 1848 Colita, Clay County, Alabama, died 28 January 1931 in Talladega, Talladega County, Alabama. They both are buried in the Campbell Cemetery near Ashland, Clay County, Alabama.
Clark was a farmer in Clay County, Alabama until the boll weevils' got into the cotton so bad they had to leave Alabama. He moved his family to the Alachua-High Springs area in 1921. First recorded land record in Alachua County, Florida for Clark was the 16 January 1922 a deed record 116, page 13 Alachua County Ancient Record. Cummer Lumber Co. Grantor to C. S. Baucum, Grantee. He farmed for a while then started a country store near Alachua.
Clark and Nettie were the parents of nine children, a daughter, died as an infant.

Former Alachua Merchant Dies At Zephyrhills
ALACHUA Clark Smith Baucum, former Alachua merchant, farmer, and real estate man, died yesterday at his home in Zephyrhills, Florida.
He was a member of a pioneer family of Alabama. (they said Alachua), but had lived in Florida for a quarter of a century. He was a former member of the Alachua Methodist Church, and at the time of his death was retired.
Mr. Baucum is survived by eight children, Mrs. Harold L. Waters and Miss Mattie Louise Baucum of Gainesville; Mrs. William M. Padgett and Mrs. Charles E. Brown, Jacksonville; Mrs. Jesse Gracy Wilson, Alachua; Mrs. Pete T. Lustig, Hollywood, Calif.; George Dewey Baucum, Burbank Calif.; and James Alvin Baucum, Van Nuys, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 Friday afternoon in the Alachua Methodist Church, under the direction of the Williams Funeral Home of Gainesville.

Clark Smith Baucum owned and operated a grocery, gas store on the Shaw Memorial Highway which I think now is Hwy. 235 about 5 miles south of Alachua, Florida. When they came to Florida in about 1922 he worked in real estate in the Newberry area and also farmed land he rented then after a few years opened the store. The children went to Forest Grove School for a while before moving and going to Alachua Schools
FUNERAL SERVICES HELD TODAY FOR C. S. BAUCUM
ALACHUA Services will be held at 3:30 this afternoon in the Alachua Methodist Church for Clark Smith Baucum, former local merchant, farmer and real estate man who died at his home in Zephyrhills Tuesday.
Interment will be in the Newnansville Cemetery under the direction of the Williams Funeral Home of Gainesville. Pallbearers will be Lamar Eddy, Carl Williams, Emory Williams, J. W. Shaw , John Jordan, Jesse Shaw, N. E. Roberts, and Robert Cato.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. J. A. Goode, B. T. Shaw, Charles Waters, M. O. Worthington , and Barney Cato.
Mr. Baucum was the son of the late William Baucum, a pioneer resident of Alabama (they said Alachua not correct), and a former member of the Alachua Methodist Church. At the time of his death he was retired and was a member of the Woodsmen of the World.
Surviving are eight children, Mrs. Minnie Lee Waters and Miss Mattie Louise Baucum of Gainesville; Mrs. William M. Padgett and Mrs. Charles E. Brown, Jacksonville; Mrs. Jesse Gracy Wilson, Alachua, Mrs. Pete T. Lustig, Hollywood, Calif., George Dewey Baucum, Burbank, Calif, and James Alvin Baucum, Van Nuys, Calif. , a sister Mrs. Mattie Wooten, Eva, Alabama and nine grandchildren.
