CLERMONT — Plans are in the works for a permanent tribute at Clermont Waterfront Park to Harry Nickell, a bicyclist who was struck by a car and killed Sunday morning while riding on U.S. Highway 27.
Ideas include planting a tree with a plaque or a small bicycle statue at a place many will associate with Nickell, whom columnist Lauren Ritchie called "Lake County's unofficial ambassador for bicycling and triathlons."
In lieu of flowers, people are asked to help with the tribute through the Harry Nickell Memorial Fund, 11129 Skyway Drive, Clermont FL 34711. A memorial service is set for 4 p.m. Friday at Waterfront Park, with a reception afterward at Oakwood Smokehouse & Grill, 230 Citrus Tower Blvd., Clermont. For those interested in a donation, please address checks to: The Harry Nickell Memorial Fund, 11129 Skyway Drive, Clermont, FL 34711
