OXFORD -- Walter Harm Alberts, 83, died Thurs (Sept 23, 1999) at his home in Oxford.
He was born Feb 16, 1916 at Sacramento to Harm J. and Reka (Groothuis) Alberts. He grew up in Culbertson and received his schooling there. He entered the U.S Army in August 1941 and was discharged June 8, 1945.
On June 23, 1945 he married Ellen Brown at Oberlin. They farmed south of McCook for several years, and then he worked for Burlington Railroad until his retirement in 1980.
He was a member of Saint John Lutheran Church, the American Legion of Oxford, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Andrew, Harm, and John; and three sisters, Dora Rice, Ella Rathe, and Etta.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen; one son, Timothy and wife, Dianna of Dannebrog; two brothers, Elmer of Palisade, Albert of McCook, two grandchildren; four great-granddaughters, and one step greatgrandson.
Services will be Monday, 2 p.m., at Saint John Lutheran Church in Oxford with the Rev. George Naylor officiating. Interment with military honors will be at the Culbertson Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday, 1-9 p.m. at the Mitchell-Nelson Funeral Home in Oxford.
A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society. Mitchell-Nelson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
