Mr. Akins was a native of Bulloch County and had lived in Lyons for the past sixty years. He was a farmer, a veteran of WWII, and a charter member of Faith Assembly of God in Lyons.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Adelia in 2004; son Albert in 2009; and grandson J. Stephen Hightower in 2013.
Henry is survived by two sons, Hubert Akins and wife Carleen, of Powder Springs, and Joseph Akins and wife Wendy, of Statesboro; one daughter, Elizabeth Hightower and husband James, of Newport, Tennessee; two sisters, Mildred Anderson, of Collins, and Cleo Jacobs, of Tyrone; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Henry Akins will be held Saturday September 6, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Stewart-Rosier Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with Reverend Allen Mathura and Reverend Lelon Jeffers officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6-8 PM.
