Merlin H. Carl was born in Berger on March 24, 1921, the son of the late Ferdinand G. and Hilda (nee Juedemann) Carl. He departed from this life Saturday, July 15, 1989 at Deaconess Hospital in St. Louis at the age of 68.
Mr. Carl served his country in the Army during WWII. On August 23, 1953, he was married to Helen Stolte, who survives him.
Mr. Carl was a retired farmer. He was a member of Berger American Legion Post 168, a Charter member of the Berger Volunteer Fire Department, the Berger City Council, St. John's United Church of Christ Church Council, Missouri Brown Swiss Cattlebreeders Association, St. John's Cemetery Association and a Director on the Berger Levee District.
Those who survive include his wife Helen; one son, Wayne H. Carl of Berger; a daughter, Mrs. Thurman (Marilyn) Nixon of St. Louis; a brother, Joy Carl of Berger; one sister, Mrs. Victor (LaVerne) Sprick, also of Berger; one grandchild; other relatives and many friends.
Furneral services were held, Wednesday, July 19, at St. John's UCC in Berger by the Rev. Julie A. Beall-Ellersieck. Interment followed in the St. John's Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by the Toedtmann-Gross Funeral Home.
