Jacob I. Eacker was a son of Judge Jacob Eacker and Margaret Fink.

Jacob's brother, George I. Eacker, a well-known orator nicknamed the "Mohawk Dutchman," became infamous for killing Alexander Hamilton's son, Philip, in a duel in Nov. 1801. George is buried in St. Paul's Churchyard in New York City.

Jacob married Gertrude Herkimer (daughter of the Revolutionary War Capt. George Herkimer and niece of the famous General Nicholas Herkimer) on March 10, 1805 in Palatine, Montgomery County, NY.

Gertrude and Jacob had at least 10 children together: Margaret, Alida, Catherine Maria, George, Maria Elisabeth, Anna Gertrude, Jacob Landgrave, John Herkimer, Helen "Lana," and Amanda (she married Richard Smith Chapel).

Jacob is not buried near his wife, Gertrude. It is believed that he left her and started another family with a woman named Martha, who he is buried near.

According to The Mohawk Valley Herkimers & Allied Families:
"In 1850 Gertrude, resided in Palatine, Montgomery Co., with her son George, while Jacob resided, from 1830 until his death in 1873, in Big Flats, Chemung Co. In the 1850 census, he is listed with a wife(?), Martha, aged 52, and 3 children aged 12 to 18. Martha died 10 Oct 1868 ae 68 and is buried next to Jacob and is called "wife of" on her tombstone."
