Gertrude Herkimer was the daughter of Capt. George Herkimer (sometimes referred to as Colonel), who with his more famous brother, General Nicholas Herkimer , fought in the Revolutionary War.

Gertrude married Jacob Eacker Jr. on March 10, 1805 in Palatine, Montgomery County, NY.

Her death date has been recorded as several different dates:
1. Familysearch says she died in 1873, but that is usually the date given for her hubsband's death.
2. Transcription of Palatine Bridge Cemetery's tombstones has the following information:
Acker, Gertrude, wife of Jacob Acker, d. June 30, 1831, ae 62yr.
3. the book Frontiersmen of New York says she died January 29, 1851.

Gertrude and Jacob had at least 10 children together: Margaret, Alida, Catherine Maria, George, Maria Elisabeth, Anna Gertrude, Jacob Landgrave, John Herkimer, Helen "Lana," and Amanda (she married Richard Smith Chapel).

Gertrude is buried near her grandsons, Herkimer E. Wilcox and Albert E. Wilcox.

Were Gertrude Herkimer and Jacob I. Eaker divorced? Or did he simply leave her? In 1850 Gertrude, resided in Palatine, Montgomery Co., with her son George, while Jacob resided, from 1830 until his death in 1873, in Big Flats, Chemung Co. In the 1850 census, he is listed with a wife(?), Martha, aged 52, and 3 children aged 12 to 18. Martha died 10 Oct 1868 ae 68 and is buried next to Jacob and is called "wife of" on her tombstone.
