A retired chemist with Exxon Co. USA and resident of Sun City, Ariz., for 22 years, he died at 5:30 a.m. Friday, April 4, 1997, at Cornerstone Village, Lafayette. He was 86, a former resident of Baton Rouge for 35 years and a native of Lexington, Ky. Visiting at Welsh Funeral Home chapel, 6700 Florida Blvd., 1 p.m. Sunday until religious services at 3 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Martin W. Corie. Interment in Owingsville Cemetery, Owingsville, Ky. Survived by wife, Mary Bruce Dawson; adaughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Ronald Starr Burdick, Breaux Bridge; a son and daughter-in-law, John King and Cherie Dawson, Denham Springs; a foster daughter and her husband, Victoria and Don Nuernberg, Baton Rouge; and five grandchildren, Casie Dawson, Violet Lee Brown, Jennifer Dawson, Emilee Rose Burdick and Kellye Bruce Burdick. He was a founding member of the board of directors of Broadmoor United Methodist Church, president of the Spanish and French clubs in Sun City and a member of Sons of the American Revolution.
