Second of 9 children of J. Curtis and Eliza Dare Hollaway, Dalton took over the family farm 2mi west of Akin after his marriage 25 Sep 1915 to Minnie Zeffie Lee. He farmed with his father for many years, then with his son.

Dalton and Minnie had 4 children:

After Minnie's death, Dalton married Blanche Corane McNeil in 1957.
