John was born abt. 182o in VA. He married Nancy Jane Owens 2 Aug. 1841 in Montgomery County, VA. They had eight children:

1. Miles Frank Adams (b. abt. 1843 Montgomery County, VA - d. 28 Aug. 1862 in the 2nd Battle of Manassas or 2nd Bull Run in VA) Pvt Co. E, 4th VA INF, CSA

2. Giles Montgomery Adams (b. 26 Jul 1844 in Montgomery County, VA - d. 29 Dec 1919 in Salem, Roanoke County, VA) Company 179 Regt., Ohio Infantry, UNION; He was married to Mildred Flowers (dau. of James A. "Cricket" and Elizabeth Amos Flowers) on 24 Dec 1866 in Roanoke County, VA.

3. William Jackson Adams (b. 25 Jul 1847 in Montgomery County, VA - d. 14 Dec 1933 in Ona, Cabell Co., West VA) Company 179 Regt., Ohio Infantry, UNION; He was married to Virginia Frances "Jenny" Chapman on 12 Jan 1871 in Cabell County, West Virginia.

4. Mary Ann Adams (b. 1851 in Montgomery County, VA - d. 23 Aug 1853 in Montgomery County, VA)

5. Harriet Elizabeth Adams (b. abt. 1848 in Montgomery County, VA - d. 1948 in VA) She was married to Stephen Lewis Faries/Ferris on 28 Dec 1875 in Bedford County, VA.

6. Nancy Virginia "Ginnie" Adams (b. 26 Jun 1854 in Montgomery County, VA - d. 15 May 1936 in Chamblissburg, Bedford County, VA) She was married to Henry Zachariah Flowers (s/o James A. "Cricket" and Elizabeth Amos Flowers) on 11 Nov 1874 in Bedford County, VA.

7. John Wesley Adams (b. Jun 1857 in Montgomery County, VA - d. 27 Apr 1906 in Fudge Creek, Cabell County, West Virginia) He married Lelia Frances "Fanny" Chapman on 6 Mar 1890 in Cabell County, West Virginia.

8. Susan Lucretia Adams (b. 14 Dec 1859 in Montgomery County, VA - d. 1 Jan 1937 in Milton, Cabell Co., West VA) She was married to Jefferson Davis Chapman on 7 Apr 1885 in Cabell County, West Virginia.

By occupation, he was a blacksmith.

Around 1860 - 1863, John and Nancy moved to Roanoke County, VA. While there, John went to court to obtain the last pay for his son, Miles F. Adams, who died in the 2nd Battle of Manassas. John died shortly after, between 1864 - 1865. The story was that he was shot by Confederate soldiers on John Sears farm (around where Salem Valley 8 movie theater is now).
