In the late 30s, they moved to Arizona, partly as his father had heard of good farm land for raising cotton, and partly as Dewitt had developed poor health and the Arizona climate was said to help.
He continued working hard on the ranch there in Eloy, Arizona, and the dust is not likely to have helped with his respiratory disease which was eventually diagnosed as TB. He spent much time in Sanitariums over the years.
Sadly, he passed away at only 37 after spending time at the Tempe Tuberculosis Sanitarium.
He lived 36 years, 10 months and 1 day.
