BALES, DOROTHY Dorothy Bales passed away March 11, 2011 at age 97. Dorothy was born January 14, 1914 in Dryden, Oregon, to parents William and Genevieve Mastin. She grew up in Oregon and moved with her family to Mountain View, California in 1925, where she finished high school. Dorothy moved to San Diego with her first husband Earl Bales in 1934. Dorothy was a successful businesswoman, opening her first restaurant in Ocean Beach in 1956, which she ultimately expanded into a small chain, Consuelo's Mexican Restaurants, with five locations from San Diego to Monterey. Dorothy will be fondly remembered for the many wonderful parties she hosted for family and friends at her lovingly restored 1925 Cliff May house on Presidio Drive. Dorothy also loved to travel, and enjoyed many cruises and trips with friends. Dorothy is survived by her brothers, Robert Mastin, Ukiah and Eugene (Nadine) Mastin, Seascape; her children Kenneth Bales of Monterey and Margaret (Robert) Townsend, San Diego; six grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. Memorial may be made to the San Diego Center for the Blind.
