He was bitten by a mad dog and went to Chicago for rabies treatment.

He was rabbit hunting during the winter, and as he walked, he stuck the barrel of his rifle in the snow. When he fired the gun, the shot backfired and blew his left hand and part of his arm off.

He was at the end of the line for being enlisted into the army for WW I, having only one hand. The war ended before he was enlisted.

He was musically inclined. He played the piano, violin, harmonica, and most any other instrument he put his mind to.

He could get into a group of Italians, Germans, etc. and in no time at all, be speaking their language.

Died from cancer of the inner walls of the abdomen.
