Obituary Geneva County Reaper, Aug. 20, 1919 - "Mrs. S. A. Hurd, half sister of Mrs. W. A. Pledger, Jr., died suddenly Sunday night at the residence of the latter, under distressing circumstances. Mrs. Hurd had left her home in Pensacola for a visit to her sister in Geneva, and being afflicted with a nervous complaint, supplied herself with a large amount of medicine she was in the habit of taking. On her trip she doubtless was more than ordinarily afflicted and consequently took more of her medicine than usual, as she was noticed to be under its influence when she left the train. She was taken to the residence of her sister and prepared to have supper, taking another dose of the medicine before the meal. In a few minutes, she collapsed and shortly thereafter passed away. Her remains were interred Monday afternoon in Geneva. The deceased is survived by a husband and three children." (Note: Husband at her death wass Charles Hurd, children: Lillian (Rhodes) Conway Wagner; Charles E. Rhodes and Garrel C. Rhodes, their father, Susan's first husband was J. H. (Jerley? Herbert Rhodes.) Note: possibly an unmarked grave. Susan's mother was Mary Jane Duncan (1852 - d 8 MAY 1879 age 27, burial place unknown. Susan's sister Della (Rhodes) Sims (1876-1966, Greenville, Butler Co., AL) spouse Charles Thomas Sims.
