Olevia was born and grew up on a farm near Indianapolis, Oklahoma. She graduated from Custer City High School in 1924 and took the examination to be certified as a teacher. She received her Bachelor's degree at Southwestern State College in 1952. Olevia taught for several years in one and two room schools in Custer, Dewey, Roger Mills Counties. The end of one room schools came and Olevia and her husband, Rolla (married 4/20/1928)moved to Oklahoma City where she taught for 14 years before retiring in 1969.
Olevia was a member of the Arapaho Methodist Church before transferring her membership to the Pennsylvania Avenue Methodist Church in Oklahoma City.
She was preceded in death by both her husband Rolla in 1962; and her only child, Lawrence, in 1998. Also preceding her in death were five sisters and her parents.
