Erma Anderson, 90, of the Wyngate Assisted Living Facility, passed away Oct. 6, 2010, at Wyngate.

She was born Nov. 2, 1919, at Royal, Iowa, a daughter of the late Grover and Gladys Anderson.

Erma was a 1937 graduate of Parkersburg High School and a lifelong member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church where she had been a member and chairman of the board and member and past president of the United Methodist Women.

She had worked as secretary to Mr. Dwight Conner, long-time principal of Parkersburg High School, and also was secretary for the Wood County Board of Education and a secretary at the American Viscose plant. Erma received a bachelor of science from Ohio University at Athens and her master of science from Syracuse (N.Y.) University. She was also an administrator in student personnel service at Ohio University and the University of Denver in Colorado to end her career. Erma was also a member of the PEO sisterhood, Altrusa International, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, University Women, and Women Marine Chapter of West Virginia having enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1943 and serving during World War II.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Jane Glenn; her niece Christine (Thomas) Penland and their daughter Kelly (Tracey) Holmes and their children, Timothy, Mary and Tracey Holmes; her nephew Jack Glenn and his daughters Jill and Leigh and their sons, Conner and Gavin, all of Florida; also many cousins throughout the United States. She is also survived by her good friends and caregivers, Pete and Winnie Bailey, who were the Angels in her life.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Jack O. Glenn.

There will be a private memorial service at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Cremation Services were provided by Kimes Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Parkersburg.
