Sonny Allen, 87, Liberty, Mo., passed away June 29, 2010, at home. He was born Sept. 3, 1922, in Rothville, Mo. Sonny served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945 on the USS LST 451 in the Pacific. On Jan. 29, 1945, he married Betty Lierman and they lived in the Liberty area most of their lives. Sonny was a member of the VFW Post 4043, Liberty. He was a mechanic for the NW Electric Power Plant and retired from the City of Independence Power Plant. Sonny was preceded in death by his wife, Betty. He is survived by three children, Gregory Allen, Kansas City, Candace Turner (Richard), Excelsior Springs, and Becky Roland, Newton, Kan.; nine grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one due in August; two sisters and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, at Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home where services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 7. Burial will follow at Missouri City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Missouri City Cemetery Association.
