|Birth: ||Apr. 28, 1833|
Terrington St Clement
|Death: ||Jan. 22, 1912|
My great, great grandfather on my Mom's side.
I think that he was born in Terrington St Clement, Norfolk, England. I believe he was the son of John Doughty and Jemima Chilvers. I am still researching this. I believe he had the following siblings: Ann, Robert, John, Alice, Elizabeth, Thomas, Mary and Hannah.
He arrived in the U.S. in 1852, and married Ann M. Holloway in 1854. Francis and Ann moved from Ohio to Illinois. They then lived in my county for several years here in Illinois. Francis and Ann, and their sons then left Illinois for Nebraska sometime after 1880.
They left behind their daughter Laura, who is my great grandmother. She had married by the time they left, and she and her husband lived out their lives in this county.
I know that Francis and Ann came back to Illinois for visits. But they lived the remainder of their lives in Lexington, Dawson County, Nebraska, and are buried there. It took me a long time to find their final resting place.
Francis and Ann Doughty had 6 children, only 3 were living by 1900. Those 3 were William, Robert and Laura. One of those who died before 1900 is unknown to me. The other 2 are Alice and John. I am still looking for their final resting places.
I wish I knew more about my great great grandparents. They were gone long before my mother was born, and I struggled to find out what I do know.
May they rest in peace.
