Dorothy Mae Drake Alford, 88, of Gerber passed away peacefully with her family by her side on January 13, 2010. She was buried January 16th at the Tehama Cemetery.
Mrs. Alford was born in August 12, 1921 to Elmo and Bertie Hale in White River, South Dakota. She was the youngest and last survivor of nine children. Dorothy married John Drake September 7th, 1940 in Reno, Nevada; together they had one child, Barbara. After John's death in 1972 Dorothy met and married Stanley Alford. Stan and Dorothy enjoyed 35 years together until Grandpa Stan passed away in 2008.
Dorothy was an avid bowler and retired as league secretary after 25 years. She was a member of the VFW Post 3909 in Los Molinos, and was Pocahontas of the Silver Cloud Council.
Grandma loved and lived for her grandchildren. She loved to camp, hunt and fish; she spent many summers doing so with both her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a great cook and seamstress. Grandma was also a big baseball fan, mostly the Dodgers, and when the Dodger's played the Giants or A's you were guaranteed a little excitement in the house.
She was always there for her family. One nephew stated, "She was the mother I never had, when she waitressed she made sure I had a $1.00 a day for school and she taught me to bake a pie when I was 12. Aunt Dorothy was a kind and loving person."
Dorothy is survived by her grandchildren, Debara and spouse Frank Kassik of Kenai Alaska; David Due Jr. of Alabama, and Donna Pacheco of Red Bluff; son-in-law of 46 years, David Due of Gerber, 6 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband John Drake; her 8 brothers and sisters; her daughter Barbara Due; and second husband, Robert Stanley Alford.
You'll always be in our loving memories. We'll miss you grandma.
