James Allen Of Effingham Dies; Funeral Sunday
James (LeRoy) Allen, 87, Effingham, died this morning at the Veterans Administration Center in Leavenworth where he was admitted July 22.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Stanton chapel with the rev. Jim Stigall of the Camp Creek - Cummings United Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in the Pardee cemetery.
Members of the family will receive friends at the Stanton Mortuary from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday. They suggest that memorials may be donations to the Kansas Heart Association or to the church of the donor's choice.
Born Sept. 25, 1888, east of Farmington, Mr. Allen was a son of Samuel Joseph and Mary Elizabeth Gilkerson Allen. He attended schools in the Farmington area.
He and Katy Stacey of Farmington were married March 7, 1920, after he served in the Army during World War I. They made their home in Nortonville for a short time and then moved to a farm near Farmington.
They moved to Effingham in 1958, and following Mrs. Allen's death Oct. 6, 1971, he entered Village Villa at Nortonville where he remained until entering the Veterans Center.
Mr. Allen formerly owned and operate a threshing machine when he lived in the Farmington area. He and Mrs. Allen celebrated their golden wedding Anniversary in 1970.
He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church conference at Topeka. Mr. Allen was the last of nine children in his immediate family.
Surviving are a nephew, Carl Allen, Beaverton, Ore. and a niece, Mrs. Florence Jeffrey, Hull Mass.
Mrs. Inez Dunn, Nortonville, Mrs. Jess (Ester) Walker, French Camp, Calif., and Mrs. George Stacey, Enterprise, are sisters-in-law and Russell Olsen, Dayton, Tenn., is a brother-in-law.
