Earl G. Beverton, a resident of the Peninsula for over 70 years, died yesterday afternoon in a local nursing home following a long illness. He was 76, a native of Truckee, where he was born Aug. 25, 1889. He came with his family to Pacific Grove at the age of 5, attending local schools and graduating from PGHS. He worked as a carpenter for various local contractors and served in the U.S. Navy during World War I. Since 1941, Mr. Beverton lived in Carmel, on Mission street between 10th and 11th avenues, and for 20 years, until his retirement six years ago, was custodian at Sunset School. For more then 35 years, he was a member of Monterey Lodge No. 1285, PGOE. Mr. Beverton never married. He leaves three sisters, Mrs. Roy (Rena) Meadows of Carmel Valley; Mrs. E.B. Martin of Alameda, and Mrs. L.H. Peterson of Los Angeles; and numerous nephews and nieces, including Roy Meadows of Carmel Valley and Mrs. Claude Smith of Monterey. Funeral services will be held Saturday at a time to be announced later, under the auspices of Monterey Lodge 1285, PBOE. The Paul Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

E.G. Beverton Rites Tomorrow Services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the Paul Funeral Chapel for Earl G. Beverton, with Monterey Lodge 1285, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, officiating. Burial will follow in El Carmelo Cemetery. The Paul Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be officers of the Monterey Elks Lodge: Russ Harris, Al Garnero, Andy Anderson, Don Merz, Abe Robertson and Hal Romig. Mr. Beverton, a Peninsula resident since the age of 5, died Wednesday afternoon in a local nursing home.
