John Allen Browne, the son of Henry Browne and Lucy (Womack?) Browne, was born in Wake Co. NC in 1796, married Patsy Hobbs, dau. of Simon Hobbs of Sampson Co. NC, prior to 1821.
This couple moved to a location which is now in the eastern portion of Tuscaloosa, Al in 1834. John had a number of slaves and is listed in the 1850 and 1860 census of Tuscaloosa Co. He died on March 31, 1866, and is buried in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery behind the church in east Tuscaloosa AL, beside his wife Patsy and a number of other Browne relatives. He is buried on the north side of this small cemetery. A picture of his stone will later be shown on the findagrave.com site for Tuscaloosa Co. AL. He is my 2nd great grandfather and I welcome inquiries.
