SALUDA -- Michael, 53, beloved husband of Caroline, died on the evening of July 10th, 2007, at his home in Saluda. The family will receive friends at Whitehall on Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM. Born at Fort Benning, Georgia, on June 2nd, 1954, Michael was the son of the late Edgar Owens Brazil and Mildred Windsor Brazil. He was raised on Army bases scattered from Alaska to California, settling in Columbia, SC, after his father's retirement from the military. He graduated from Spring Valley High School and served in the Columbia Police Department. He later worked as a furniture mover and cable TV technician. After his move to Saluda, he worked a number of years at Saluda Hardware.
An avid reader and internet researcher, Michael was self educated to a level that rivaled most professionals. He loved music, history, politics, philosophy and science. A very private person, he is remembered by most as an extremely gifted artist and sculptor. Among his many other talents, he was a skilled guitar player and video gamer. He had a wide knowledge of the world and a merry sense of humor.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 24 years, Caroline Hembel Brazil, are his sons, Eric Lester Brazil, Richard Myles Brazil, and daughter, Diana Amber Brazil. He is also survived by his brother, Martin Brazil of Biloxi Mississippi, and his sisters, Debi Brazil Harris of Atlanta, Georgia, and Karen Brazil LeBlanc of Union, SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Red Bank Baptist Church of Saluda.
