Dorothy Marion Craig Baker
KEESEVILLE — Dorothy Marion Craig Baker, 91, of Keeseville, passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Virginia (Ginger) and Robert Johnson, in Plattsburgh, with her loving family by her side.
She was born on South Catherine Street in Plattsburgh, on Oct. 2, 1920, the daughter of James Loren Humphrey Craig and Luella Wells Craig. She was the eighth of twelve children.
Dorothy was a member and past Matron of the AuSable Valley Chapter of the Eastern Stars, served as District Deputy Grand Matron in 1991, belonged to the North Country Womens Club of which she served as President for many years, as well as an active member of the Keeseville United Methodist Church volunteering many hours to the thrift store as well as other events at the church.
She was employed in the 1960s with the National Commercial Bank and Trust Company before her employment with AuSable Valley Central School as the Secretary to the Principal for many years. At one time, she made and decorated beautiful wedding and special occasion cakes. She was an avid reader and in later years became a huge fan of game shows, especially "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader", as well as numerous cooking shows.
Dorothy was loving and thoughtful, always thinking of others first and she was admired and greatly loved by all who knew her for her warmth and generosity. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Ronald Allen of Peru, Ginger and Robert Johnson of Plattsburgh, Donna and David Torraca of Leesburg, Va., and daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Baker of Plattsburgh and The Villages, Fla.; grandchildren include, Craig Allen, Tracy Waite, and Daniel Torraca; great-grandchildren include Whitney Aubin, Bryan Allen, Cassy Aubin, Kayleigh Allen and Tyler Aubin; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Lois Craig of Broadalbin, N.Y., and sister-in-law Leona Craig of Sparks, Nev.; brother-in-law, Emil Joe Habesch of Rexford, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Howard Wallace Baker; three sons, Eddie Howard Baker, Richard Donald Baker and Michael David Baker; sisters and brothers-in-law, Hazel and Harry Holland, Ruth and Devoice Seymour, Mary and Theodore Lovelass, Harriet and Merritt Metcalf, and Luella Habesch; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Alice Craig, John and Harriette Craig, Loren and Sarah Craig, Charles and Joan Craig, and Allen Joseph Craig and Virginia Barber Craig; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Irene and Irving Ransom, Beatrice and Roger Irwin, Roger and Genevieve Baker, Roland and Florence Baker, and Joyce and Anthony Rennell.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 29, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 124 Clinton Street, Keeseville. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 30, at the Keeseville United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Keeseville.
