Lena May Mercer was born 10 Jun 1878 in Guernsey County, Ohio to William Henry Mercer and Anna A. Woodburn. She married William M. Crubaugh in 1893 and they had four children together - Annie Elizabeth Crubaugh Stanley (b.1894), Ralph Leroy Crubaugh (b.1896), Clarence R. Crubaugh (b.1898), and David Henry Crubaugh (b.1900).
In the 1910 census, William is listed with the children and Lena is missing. William lists his status as married. Sometime, however, between the summer of 1913 and the late part of 1914, Will and Lena May parted ways. Lena married Joseph William Campbell in Wayne County, MI on 31 Aug 1923. Curiously, in the World War I Draft Registrations of her three sons, all list Lena May as their closest relative, but the listings suggest that Lena May moved in with Joseph Campbell in mid-1918. Clarence (on 5 Jun 1918) lists her as Mrs. William Crubaugh living in Detroit, MI; Ralph (on 12 Sep 1918) lists her as Mrs. May Campbell living in on a farm near Lisbon, OH; and similarly, David (on 12 Sep 1918), lists her as Mrs. May Campbell living on a farm near Lisbon, OH.
In the 1930 and 1940 census listings, Lena May is living with Joseph in Preble, OH. Joseph died in 1946 and was buried in Mound Cemetery in Eaton, OH. Lena's death certificate indicates that she was widowed in 1949 when she died.
