|Death: ||Oct., 2012|
The loss of a pet friend can be so much like the loss of a personal human friend. My friend "Shady" was a male cockatiel who happily greeted me when I came near, and vied for attention when I sat beside his age. He loved having his head scratched, spinning hs head upside-down like The Exorcist to get his "chin" and everything else covered. When I took him out if the cage, he would go walkabout and check out the room before waddling back to me to play. We really enjoyed singing together. He could hear the wife's car before I could, and would start to whistle and carry on before I knew she was home. He would call "Pretty bird!" until she would come over and talk to him. He really had a thing for the ladies. Shady was about 20 years years old when he passed away. He spent his final years keeping me entertained when I was blue. Now he rests in my garden below the window through which I watch the wild birds at the feeder. i will watch the other birds and always think of you, pretty bird, pretty bird. Fly free little friend, and sing with me again one day.
