JOHN D. ASKINS FUNERAL TODAY
Prominent Broker Dies After Three Years of Illness

Funeral services for John D.Askins, widely known wholesale and retail grocery broker, who died at 9:30 o'clock Tuesday night(22 Aug 1922), will be conducted at 10:30 o'clock this morning from the family residence on the New Cut Road opposite Sennings Park. Following services at the home the body will be buried at at Cave Hill Cemetery (in the Frank William Parfitt family plot where his sister, Margaret Parker Askins (Parfitt)(Nichoslon), the former wife of Frank Parfitt and his mother, Susan Elizabeth Moore (Askins)(Curtis) are buried).

For more than thirty years Mr. Askins was engaged in the grocery business in Louisville, twenty years of which was spent as manager of the Mammoth Grocery Company. His death followed an illness which started with an attach of influenza three years ago, his condition becoming serious a year ago, which prevented him from attending to business.

He was the son of the late Dr. E.D. Askins, of Springfield, KY., who died several years ago. He had been a resident of Louisville for many years and for thirty years had been prominently connected with the business life of the community.

Besides his widow, who, before her marriage, was Miss Iona Shelnut, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Margaret Phelps and Misses Elsie and Dorothy Askins; one son, Robert Lee Askins; two sisters, Mrs. W. W. Nicholson and Mrs. Grant Mason of Harlan, KY., and two grandchildren.
