Lola Grace "Nicky" Minor was born on 08 Apr 1930 in Tioga County, New York, the fourth child of Cecil Earl Minor and Mildred Marie Harper. As a child she was called 'Grace', but as an adult she acquired the nickname 'Nicky' and it stayed with her. She had five siblings, namely: Harold W, Richard N, Spencer M, Patricia, and Jane.

She moved with her family to Elmira when she was about age 7 and lived there until she left to attend an all girls' college in Kansas City, Missouri. It was on a jaunt to the local Town Topic restaurant that she met their cook, Carl Estes Brock, son of William Oron Brock and Ellen Leona Wallace. He treated her to a burger and chili and then on 04 Nov 1949 made her his bride. During the 1950s, she and her husband, Carl, moved to Elmira, New York to be near her family. In 1960, they returned to the Kansas City area, where they had a daughter in 1963.

After a valiant fight with cancer, she died at age 48 on 07 Mar 1979 in Shawnee Mission, Johnson County, Kansas.
