Erma Adams was a hard worker all of her life. As a little girl, she picked cotton in Delhi, LA. In her early adult life, she was a mother and a minister's wife. She worked just as hard in the church as she did in the cotton fields. She worked as the organist, the church secretary, the choir director, and even the transportation director of many of the church congregations of which they served. She was instrumental in organizing the two young people choirs - "Saints and Sinners" and "Nolley Notables". They traveled the southern United States performing concerts and participating in competitions. "Miss" Erma made the difference in so many young people's lives. She took many young children off the streets, helped them develop a talent, and some even became successful in the music industry.
She also worked for the River Road Historical Society as the Administrator of Destrehan Plantation. She was involved in coordinating fund raising projects for the complete restoration of this wonderful landmark.
She was also Director of the Mental Health Association for Caddo Parish and again helped many people.
For the last 26 years she has been a superstar real estate agent in Central Louisiana. She has also traveled the United States speaking about Real Estate at the Mike Ferry seminars. Erma won numerous national Real Estate awards such as Century 21 Centurion Award for multiple years, 2001 Century 21 Top Producer - Ninth in the nation, Century 21 Diamond, Ruby, and Emerald Elite member for several years, Coldwell Banker "1992 The Best of the Best in the Nation", Central Louisiana Board of Realtors Multi-Million Dollar Producer for 25 of the past 26 years, Top Producer in Central Louisiana for numerous years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver C. Thornton and Katherine "Kate" Traxler Thornton, two sons, James David Adams and Mark Steven Adams and three brothers, Robert Thornton, William Thornton, and Buddy Thornton. She was also preceded in death by her four-legged companions Nicholas, Jean-Jacques, and Prince Charles.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 65 years, Reverend James L. Adams, her son, Charles "Michael" Adams, both of Alexandria, and her four legged companions, Beau and Prince Michael.
The family request memorials be made to B. A. R. K., P. O. Box 404, Tioga, LA 71477-0404.
