Born in Pennsylvania, Andy's family moved to Illinois when he a lad. He attended school until age 13. At age 13 he came to Streator and worked in the coal mines. At age 20 he started working in the printing business. In 1891, at age 27, he opened his own business, Anderson Printing Co. Although at first his business struggled, he managed to turn it into a very successful endeavor.
As an avid golfer, Mr. Anderson played a role in the formation of the Country Club. He also proposed that the buildings at the fairgrounds on North Bloomington St. be replaced and a community golf course and recreation center be developed. A nine-hole golf course, two clay tennis courts, a baseball diamond, a club house and a football field were built at his expense. Two hundred trees were planted. Its opening was July 5, 1925. The nine hole golf course stands today, known as Anderson Field.
