I learned of this grave marker from a retired Tulsa Police Officer who referred me to Cpl. Ed Jackson, TPD (retired) who has been and continues to research this event for a book project. He stated that this, indeed, was a "wrongful" death and in the criminal trial portion there is evidence of political cover up. An ultimate civil suit against the officers involved resulted in a finding of guilt and an accompanying money judgment.
Cpl. Jackson stated that he used this incident as a training opportunity throughout his career to impress upon young officers the importance of using one's brain before resorting to one's brawn. He continues to search for relatives of those involved, on both sides, in hopes of keeping the final written account as true and accurate as possible. Cpl. Jackson can be contacted at: [email protected]
