David LaVere is the son of David Herbst and Ray Luella Van Valkenburg, the husband of Namoi Marie Farnworth and the Father of Maretta, Kerry, Birtus, Lugene, Mario and Arlen. He had several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Obiruary:
David LaVere Herbst passed away in Redlands, California, on Nov. 7, 2009. He has been in failing health for some time. He was the oldest son born April 9, 1922 at Blackfoot (Groveland), Idaho to David and Ray Luella Van Valkenburg Herbst. He grew up and attended school in Blackfoot.
In 1939, he joined the National Guard. They were sent to Fort Lewis for a year of training after which he was sent to New Jersey for six months of additional training in radio/electronics.
In December 1941, war was declared and in early 1942 their unit (renamed the 41st Division) was sent to the Southwest Pacific Theatre.
He saw action in New Guinea and the related campaigns until May of 1945. He was always proud of his time spent serving his country.
He married Naomi Marie Farnworth on July 5, 1945 in the Logan, Utah Temple. He attended college at Utah State College in Logan, worked in Seattle, WA, Japan, Hawaii, and Rhode Island.
He settled in California where he worked 24 years for the Apollo and Space shuttle program for Rockwell Space Division, retiring in 1986. While working he continued his education part-time and earned his master's degree in business from Long Beach College.
He is survived by his wife, three sons, (Kerry, Mario and Arlen), two daughters (Maretta and Lugene), many grand and great grandchildren and one sister, Darlene (Lavoy) Walker of Blackfoot. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son and three brothers.
Burial will be in the Military Plot of the cemetery in Brea, California.
