EVENING COURIER & REPORTER,WATERLOO,IOWA TUESDAY July1,1919 REV.LEVI SHAFFER/85 DIES AT HUDSON Rev. Levi Shaffer, for nearly 50 years a minister of the Church of the Brethern, died at his home here at 2:45 p.m. yesterday after an illness of about one month duration. Funeral services will be tommorrow at 2:30 p. m. at the United Brethern Church and the body will be taken to his former home at Beatrice,Ne. for interment. Rev. Mr. Shaffer was born in Bedofrd vounty pa. 85 years ago and lived there till he was five years old when the family moved to Cambria county. He was married to Miss JAne Carroll at Johnstown Pa. They lived in Pennsalvania until 1866 when thay came to Iowa and located at Vierden"s Grove about four miles west of Waterloo.There they lived nine years before goint to Montgomery county, from which place they went to Beatrice Nebr.Mrs. Shaffer died at Beatrice about 20 years ago and eight years later Rev. Mr. Shaffer moved to Hudsonwhere he was married to Jennie McBain, and resided in this toen continously until his death. He is survived by the following children, a daughter Mrs. George Beer, having died at Twin Falls Ida. in February 1919,Frank H.,Allentown Pa.,George C., Beatrice Nebr.,Charles A. Chicago, Mrs. Paul Strayer,Waterloo,Mrs. L.C. Miller,Fort Collins Col.,Mrs. Walter Kelso,Denver,Col,Mrs. George Bucher,Greeley Col.,Mrs. W.J. Gutknecht, Hudson. -------------------------------------------------BEATRICE DAILY SUN Wen.a.m. July 2,1919 Levi shaffer dies at home at Hudson,Iowa.Word was recieved here yesterday announcing the death of Levi Shaffer, formely a resident of Beatrice,which occured at his home Sunday at Hudson Ia. aged 83 years. The remains will be brought to Beatrice Thursday by relatives for intermentat the cemetery six miles north of the city where the remains will be buried.
