Allan G. "Gunny" Grice
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Prairie View Baptist Chapel with the Rev. Mike Herbert and the Rev. Calvin Powell officiating. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery with military rites by the Amarillo Marine Corps Reserve Unit. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle.
Mr. Grice was born Feb. 25, 1937, in Pelican, La. He served 20 years in the Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a life member of V.F.W. Post 1475 serving in all command positions of the V.F.W. including State Commander of Texas from 1986 to 1987.
He was a ROTC Marine Corps instructor to many, hoping to each cadet that he was some inspiration in their lives. He taught ROTC at Caprock High School from 1975 to 1993 and Plaquemine High School from 1993 to 2000. He married Brenda Grice on May 7, 1982.
He was preceded in death by his wife on July 23, 2001; his parents, William and Annie Grice; four sisters, Elsie Grice, Louise Ward, Ruth Arndt and Avery Goins; and a brother, Raymond Grice.
Survivors include three daughters, Karyn Sue Hopkins of Lakeside, Calif., Shellie Price and husband, Justin, and Trudie Larance and husband, Coy, all of Amarillo; three sons, Allan Gene Grice Jr. and Michael Wayne Grice, both of Amarillo, and J.D. Hollis and wife, Sherry, of Gulfport, Miss.; 12 grandchildren, Bobby Ray, Corry, Brandy, Laci, Jackie, Cassie, KC, Jessica, Brandi, Kristopher, Anthony and Leland; and two great-grandchildren, Shayana and Genesis.
The family suggests memorials be to Don & Sybil Harrington Cancer Center, 1500 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106.
