Helen Drake was born Dec. 15, 1918 in Neosho County, Kansas, the daughter of Harry Edwin and Lois Patterson Winters. She passed away March 10, 1981, at the Smith County Memorial Hospital.
Helen moved to Oklahoma after the death of her mother where she finished high school in Dewey, Oklahoma. She married Kenneth Drake on April 25, 1938. She worked cleaning homes for oil producers in Bartlesville, Oklahoma for some time. She moved to Esbon, Kansas in May of 1945 with her 3 children to care for her grandmother, then moved to Smith Center in October 1959, where she worked as a cook. When finally she had to quit work due to ill health she still took care of her grandson Mickey to whom she was very devoted.
Mrs. Drake was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Neil and two children Kenneth and Darlene. Survivors include her daughter Edith and grandson Mickey both of the home in Smith Center. In addition she is survived by her stepmother Alcie Winters of Copan, Oklahoma, a sister Ann and her husband Bill Swearingin and 2 nieces, Mary Ann and Brenda of Dewey, Oklahoma.
