Graveside services for James L. Ballard, 76, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Desert Lawn Cemetery in Calimesa. He died from complications of a stroke Tuesday at Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center.
Friends may call from 2 until 5 p.m. Sunday at Weaver Mortuary in Beaumont.
Mr. Ballard, who was born in Hot Springs, Ark., lived in Cherry Valley 35 years. He was a supervisor for 35 years with the California Department of Agriculture.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Ballard was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Desert Edge Post 4417 in Banning.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; two daughters, Susan Loftin and Debra Hamilton, both of Cherry Valley; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Odis of Porterville; and a sister, Fay McGowen of Las Vegas.
