Betty Jenkins Abbott age 87 of Kingston passed away Wednesday January 30, 2008.

Born March 2, 1920 in Kingston to James and Stella Jenkins, she was one of eleven children. She was married in 1937 to Ira Earnest Abbott and they had four daughters.

A long–time member of Poplar Springs Primitive Baptist Church. Loved her church and enjoyed going to Saturday night church singings as well.

She grew up on her parents' farm in the Poplar Springs Community. At six years of age her assigned chore was "milking the cows". As a child growing up she always loved working outside over inside chores.

Loved all day quilting events at the mothers' home place and sister, Carrie Farmer's house for many years. Always a cheerful person with a beautiful smile for everyone.

She was a beloved and cherished grandmother who never raised her voice at her own children or grandchildren through the many years.

Preceded in death by parents James and Stella Robinson Jenkins, husband Ira Earnest Abbott, sisters Carrie Jenkins Farmer, Maude Jenkins Galyon, Lela Jenkins Mathis, Martha Hazel Jenkins Guettner. Brothers Roy, Carl and Kenneth Jenkins.

Survivors include four daughters and sons in law, Judy Abbott Wright and husband Donald of Kingston. Jane Abbott Cofer and husband Talmadge of Mobile, Alabama. Joan Abbott Parish and husband Eddie of Kingston Foniah Abbott Wheeler and husband Russell of Las Vegas, Nevada. Sisters Laura Belle Jenkins Wright, and Margaret Ruth Bohanan Brother Virgle Jenkins. Seven grandchildren Chuck and Alan Westmoreland, Marc Cofer, Bradley Parish, Adam Parish, Kristina Pento, and Michael Pento. Very special niece June Evans.

Funeral 7pm Thursday January 31, 2008 in the Kyker Chapel with the Rev. Gary Massingill and the Rev. Dewey Brown officiating. Eulogy given by Brad and Adam Parish.

Burial 11am Friday at Poplar Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7pm Thursday at the Kyker Funeral Home in Kingston.
