Joseph Ruben Berry was born on April 11, 1945 in San Diego, CA to Joseph and Evelyn Coffey Berry. He was an only child small in stature about 5'3" tall taking after his Mother Evelyn, Granny Josephine Coffey (Thorn), and his great grandfather Billy Merrell. Joseph Ruben was named Joseph as a tribute to his Father and Ruben to honor his Grandfather Ruben Francis Coffee(y) who died in Portales, New Mexico at 39 years old in 1936.
Joe often called "little Joey" moved from Roswell, New Mexico when he was 14 years old traveling by bus with his cousin Sherri Gillespie to California. Joey loved to collect comic books that he sold to get enough money for new clothes to travel West to live with his Aunt Maudie, Uncle Dale, Sherri, and Bobby. Joey was creative and self sufficient at an early age.
His Mother Evelyn never quite recovered from the loss of her first child Philip Alvin who died while still a toddler in 1940 five years before Joey was born. Joey was always very protective of his Mother who died in 1972 in San Francisco, CA.
Joey was charismatic, charming, and good looking. He loved drawing, lifting weights, wrestling, and always had a way with the ladies. Joey became an entrepreneur while still very young. He observed how pool tables were made and soon opened a store selling pool tables off and on most of his life. At the time of his passing he owned Joe's Custom Billiards in Redmond, Oregon.
