Dick was one of three sons of Minnie Waters and William G. Rowley. He married Eva McDonald, by whom he sired four children: William, Margaret, Doris and Robert. After divorcing, he married Ethel C. Peters, who passed away in 1961. On June 21, 1969, he married widow Florence Usher in Detroit. Florence's parents and his parents were lifelong friends, and Dick once saved Florence's life as a little girl when she fell into the Detroit River. He built a house on Lake Huron in Ontario, where they lived for several years before moving to Florida in 1974. He died of a heart attack the following January. During his lifetime, he was in the printing business and also was a high school teacher in the Ontario school system.
