Charlie was a charming little lad -bringing joy to the townspeople wherever he went. He was a frequent visitor to the local newspaper office making it a sad day for the Editor to write Charles heartbreaking obituary. On his way home from school one day, he decided to climb a fence and take a short-cut to his home. He fell becoming entangled in the fencing. He was later discovered and freed. His leg had been injured and was being treated but gangrene or peritonitis had set in. Treatment failed and the lad succumbed to the infection. His precious mother Emily had passed a year earlier. The home had once again been delivered a devastating blow. Charlie was interred in the same plot as his mother and sister Susan. Father Charles is there as well passing 27 years later. No inscription was added to the monument.
Emily J passed at the age of forty-four in 1874, the father Charles passed in 1902 at seventy-five years. Grandfather Hercules has a grand burial site a short distance away which includes his second family and household help from the original "House on the Mound" estate, now the Historical Villa Louis.
Young Charles was seven years and six months of age when he died.
