From the Obituary of Mary M. House
Mary M. House was born in Exeter, Otsego County, New York, on January 20, 1848, and died in Anamosa, Iowa, July 21, 1921, at the age of 73 years, 6 months, and 1 day.
With her parents she came to Iowa in the year 1854, and the family setteled in Jones County. Here
she grew to womanhood and during the early years she experienced all the sacrifices and hardships incidental to the life of pioneers. During these years she also saw the developement of the great state of Iowa from primative wilderness to one of the richest states of the union. At the same time she watched with increasing interest the rapid growth of the church she loved and of which she has been a member
On July 18, 1863, she became the wife of John W. Brickley, and they made their home in Jones County.
during the years ten children came to bless the home, each bringing its demands for love, and adding to the parental care and toil, but to each child mother Brickley freely gave her heart of love and years of toil.
Of the ten children, five proceeded the mother to the other world. Those who are living (unreadable) this devoted wife and mother are Mrs. Fannie Lyon, Jeremiah Brickley, and Mrs. Florence Taylor of Olin, Iowa; Mrs. Luella Purcell of Anamosa, Iowa; and Mrs. Jennie Purcell of Marion, Iowa.
