Ethel Vienna Southard was born in Logan Co., Ohio to Mansfield and Lavena Southard. Her marriage to Oscar Brake occurred on Jan 29, 1907 in West Mansfield, Logan, Ohio. Ethel and Oscar had a son, William James (b. 1909) and a daughter Anna Lavena Elizabeth (b. 1913). In 1914 the family moved to Custer, Antrim, Michigan where Ethel and Oscar would reside for the rest of their lives. Oscar died in 1950 and Ethel survived him by over 10 years. She died on Mar 15, 1961 in Bellaire, Michigan and was buried beside her husband in Fairview Cemetery.
