Nicolasa was a naturalized American Citizen. She met her husband to be, Oscar Lee Akins, in the shipyards in Vancouver, Washington, where they both were welders. She and Oscar were married in Portland, Oregon, in 1942, and Oscar preceded her in death on February 2, 1991. They were married for 55 years.
Nicolasa was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a good homemaker, good cook, loved sewing and gardening. Nicolasa was a member of the First Baptist Church in Myrtle Creek. She also was very active in her church activities such as bible study and choir.
She is survived by two sons, Ralph Clark Akins of Portland; James Luciano Akins of Canyonville; two sisters, Kay Cubero and Angelina Shaw, both of Las Vegas, Nevada; granddaughter, Rebecca Akins and her husband, Michael Gremillion of Roseburg; nine other grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oscar; and her first-born son, Ernest who passed away on August 1, 2004.
Nicolasa passed away on the birth date of her son, Ernest.
